Who publishes Homeowner Playbooks

Homeowner Playbooks publishes planning references for people remodeling their own homes. One product today: the Remodel Decision Kit.

What we make

Files that put a decision in front of you before it becomes expensive. Not inspiration, not a gallery, not a course. The kit is 11 documents covering a kitchen and a bathroom remodel from the first sequence decision to the last punch list item, and its organizing idea is that the decisions which hurt are the ones that expire quietly, on your side of the table, one lead time before anybody needs the thing.

What it is built from

Built from published planning guidelines and manufacturer documentation. That sentence is the whole of the provenance claim, and it is the only one you will find on this site.

Concretely: 902 figures taken from 66 published documents by 39 publishers, each figure printed next to the document it came from, and every one of those documents listed with a link on the sources page. Four kinds of number are kept apart and labeled: a published planning guideline, a figure from a model code that many US jurisdictions have adopted, a dimension one named manufacturer publishes for one of its own products, and a typical range. Mixing them is how a recommendation ends up sounding like law.

What we do not claim

Nothing here was reviewed, checked, approved or endorsed by a certified designer, a licensed contractor, an engineer or a trade body. We could have paid somebody for a logo on a cover. Instead we published the documents, which is harder to fake and more use to you.

We also do not tell you what your building code requires, we do not give legal or financial advice, we do not explain how to carry out electrical, gas, plumbing or structural work, and we make no claim about money saved or how your project will turn out.

The money we do not take

No affiliate commissions. No sponsorship. No manufacturer money of any kind. When the kit names a manufacturer it is because that manufacturer published a document with a dimension in it, and we cite it the way you would cite anything else. They have not reviewed, endorsed or supplied anything here, and most of them have no idea we exist.

This matters more than it sounds. A site that earns a commission on the appliance it recommends is writing an advertisement with a table of contents. We sell one thing, to you, once, and that is the entire business model.

Who writes it

The kit is published by Homeowner Playbooks as an organization, and there is no author persona on the cover, because a name on a cover is not evidence. What is evidence is on the sources page. If you want to test us, pick a figure in a guide, follow it to its document, and see whether it says what we said it says.

Corrections

Documents get new editions and people make mistakes. Write to info@norphis.it with the file and the page. Corrections are free, and everybody who bought is told where to get them.
