A kitchen part way through a remodel: green cabinets in, marble down, a roll of drawings on the worktop.

The kit costs $67. The decisions it protects cost this.

Cabinets take up to 18 weeks. Every week you wait, one more decision closes.

Spend, budget and planning figures: Houzz Research, 2026 US Houzz and Home Study, 2025 data, read 22 September 2026. Lead times: the suppliers named in File 1. Both are on the sources page.

The part nobody warns you about

The expensive mistakes are quiet, and they are early.

Flat cabinet cartons stacked in an empty room with a clipboard on top, the morning the order arrives.

Something is ordered before the drawing says it fits.

A refrigerator that fits its opening and blocks the aisle. A cabinet line where nobody filled in the hinge side.

In the kit

A fit sheet per appliance and a 13 field order check, read against the drawing.

The page itself. Tap to read it full size.
An empty room with fresh plaster, a laser measure held against the wall and a folding rule on the floor.

The room was never measured the way a plan needs it.

Walls out of square, diagonals never taken, and the plan you approve is drawn on numbers that are almost right.

In the kit

A 119 field measuring sheet. Walls at two heights, both diagonals, every opening.

The page itself. Tap to read it full size.
Three quotations fanned across a walnut table with a pen, a cup of coffee and a pair of glasses.

Three quotes arrive and none of them price the same job.

The cheapest quote and the cheapest project are usually two different bidders. The difference is the line nobody included.

In the kit

One scope of work for every bidder, and a workbook that puts the three against it.

The page itself. Tap to read it full size.

What a checklist does not have

Order by, not need by.

  • A decision is due one lead time early. Not the week the thing is needed.
  • 5 points of no return. After each one a change costs money, not a phone call.
  • 6 phases, on one page. Print it, put it on the wall, work backwards.

Everyone sells a checklist of what to do. The thing that costs money is when, and that is the file this kit opens with.

What you get

11 files, in the order you need them.

  1. 1The Decision TimelineThe order the decisions have to be made in.
  2. 2Measurement and Clearance SheetsThe numbers a designer works to, so you can read a plan.
  3. 2aMeasuring SheetThe survey to take before anyone draws your room.
  4. 3Appliance and Fixture Fit SheetCatches the thing that does not fit, before it is ordered.
  5. 4Cabinet Order CheckThe order, line by line, against the drawing.
  6. 5Countertop, Sink and Vanity Top ApprovalThe drawing you sign before the slab is cut.
  7. 6Before the Walls CloseThe few days when everything is still visible.
  8. 7Scope of WorkOne document, so three quotes price the same job.
  9. 8Quote Comparison WorkbookShows you the lines nobody priced.
  10. 9Contractor Interview and Reference CheckQuestions that get real answers.
  11. 10Payment Schedule and Change Order LogWhat you paid, what you owe, what each change added.
  12. 11Punch List, Closeout and Warranty BinderFinish without leaving money on the table.

We are not going to tell you that a thousand remodels taught us this. They did not. Every figure comes from a document somebody else published, and is printed beside it. Nobody here is a licensed contractor, a designer or an engineer, and the kit says so on the page.

Is this for you?

Yes, if

  • Nothing is ordered yet. The kit is spent once the cabinets are on the truck.
  • You have quotes that do not match. One scope of work, three quotes, one list.
  • You want the next question. Not an opinion to agree with.
  • You want to check the numbers. Every figure names the document it came from.

No, if

  • The tile is already on. Most of this has passed.
  • You want a room designed. This gives numbers, not a layout.
  • You want to do the wiring. The kit refuses to explain it.
  • You want a price for your job. It compares quotes, it does not make them.

The things people ask first

What do I actually get?

11 files plus a fillable measuring sheet, downloaded the moment you pay. 214 pages of PDF, 3 spreadsheets with live formulas, a Word copy of the scope of work, and 647 form fields you can type into.

Is this a course or a video?

Neither. It is a set of documents you fill in and hand to the people doing the work. Nothing to watch, nothing to log into.

Who wrote it, and from what?

Built from published planning guidelines and manufacturer documentation. 902 figures from 66 documents by 39 publishers, each one printed with the document it came from and the date it was read. Nobody here is a licensed contractor, a designer or an engineer, and the kit never says otherwise.

Does it work outside the United States?

Yes. Every dimension is printed twice, in inches and millimetres, and every PDF comes in a Letter and A4 edition. What stays local is a building code figure: those are marked in amber and sent back to the authority where you live.

I am only doing a bathroom. Is half of it wasted?

The measurement, fit, order, rough-in and closeout files all have bath chapters, and the quote, scope, interview and payment files do not care which room it is. The kitchen chapters are the part you would not use.

Can I get a refund?

All sales are final. Every file is delivered the moment you pay. The one exception is a file that is genuinely defective: send a screenshot within 30 days and we repair it or refund it. Changing your mind is not covered, which is why 6 pages are free to read before you pay.

20 more, including the ones we answer with a no, are on the questions page.

Material samples laid out on oak: marble, soapstone, emerald tile, terracotta tile, a cabinet door, a brass pull and three paint chips.

Every one of these is a decision with a date on it. The kit is the calendar.
